Manganese fouling can be a real problem with lots of instruments on sites where it is present. The degree of manganese fouling will determine if it is a problem for the Crius sensors. Generally manganese fouling does not present a problem, however if it is extreme it could require cleaning of the sensors.

Cleaning the sensor is best done by holding the sensor at 90 degrees to a flow of clean water (a tap) or by swooshing the sensor backwards and forwards in a bucket of clean water. The picture shows a sensor that had been in the autocalibrator for 3 months and was working very well. The sensor was cleaned and it went back to work.
